Description: On Friday, October 14th St. Barnabas Church held its annual art sale at 361 Danforth Ave. This event is now in its 28th year and shows no signs of slowing down. 22 artists, some new, brought their âgreatest hitsâ with them to show off their talent. Art shows in East York and the Beaches are becoming more and more popular thanks in part to the quality of the work being displayed.
The enthusiasm of local artist Jenny Reid is responsible for getting the Riverdale art show up and running. Initially it was designed as a way to raise funds for the church but, despite the apprehension of church leaders, Reid managed to turn them around, and they finally agreed only on the condition that it would not cost the chuch any money. On Saturday, June 3rd, 1989 they hosted their very first art show and included 11 artists; the rest, as they say, is history. This is a very popular show that attracts dozens of locals who come to see the great talent on display; some browse, a lot more of them buy. It also attracts local dignitaries such as Toronto Danforth MPP Peter Tabuns and Ward 30 councillor, Paula Fletcher who are regular vistors to this yearly event.
