Description: On Thursday May, 14th, The Hirut Cafe at 2050 Danforth Ave was a restaurant awash with some of the finest business people on the Danforth. Not a single soul was there to elevate their own agenda; instead there was a cornucopia of goodwill among those in attendance who had been nominated as "Hidden Gems" for their service to the community by the Danforth East Community Association (DECA). In this Battle of the Gems, the winning business, which turned out to be Gerrard Pizza (1528 Danforth Ave), received a marketing package for their business, professional photographs, a branding package which included "in-store restaurant design/consultation" and a new website. Gerrard may have won, but on this night there were no losers, with all the finalists provided with a framed certificate to recognize their business' contribution to the community. A special thanks has to be given to Catherine Porter, a founding member of DECA, Gay Stephenson, one of the organizers for Deca Gems, Billy Dertilis, BIA Chair, DECA chair, Sheri Hebdon, past Chair, Anita Schretlen and Heather who designed the DECA poster for their hard work in putting this event together.
