Description: On a rainy evening in March, Kelly Steele opened up her lovely home for an intimate concert performance by violinist Lynn Kuo, pianist Susan Telner and mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah. Guests were treated to a captivating storytelling by Julie Nesrallah and she went on to perform enchanting renditions of two arias from Carmen. Why did these talented musicians delight our senses with a magnificent up close and personal concert in a Leslieville living room? Because there is a classical revolution afoot. Creative Director Greg Hawco is introducing a creative venture which aims to transform the classical orchestral experience. The Urban Orchestra is changing the way classical music is digested, altering how we approach classical music and transforming it to an accessible experience.
The Urban Orchestra is a modern, âurbanâ approach to an amazing musical form that is too often trapped in the conventions of the past. Hosts Greg Hawco and Gil Deacon introduced the venture, and went on to encourage fundraising to launch the Urban Orchestra from an idea into a reality. The night ended with an auction led by auctioneer pro and host of CBC's q, Tom Power. The board, including Musical Director Greg Hawco, Producer Christian Sharpe, President Murray Foster, Vice-President Catherine Davey, Director Louis Amato-Gauci, Director Grant Gordon, Director Tammy Ring and PR co-ordinator Skaidra Puodziunas said they were incredibly grateful and excited to move onward with this project and thank Lerners Law kindly sponsoring the event.
